SW 550 - Writing is Rewriting

Prerequisite, graduate student in Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, or consent of instructor. Writing isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon: an ongoing process and practice of reshaping, honing, and evolving story and character. Finishing a first draft is an accomplishment, but it’s only the beginning. It’s not a final draft until you’ve rewritten it. In this course, students will learn all aspects of the artistic and professional rewriting process through lectures, in-class rewriting exercises, and guest speakers; and will be able to apply this to their own work. Students are required to bring an existing script, either in progress or completed first draft, to work on in the course. Letter grade. This course may be repeated for credit. (Offered as needed.) 1.5-3 credits
