LAW 7332 - International Criminal Law


This course will study the development of international criminal law since the mid-20th century. Study will include the main doctrines of international criminal law and procedure, including concepts of jurisdiction, substantive international crimes and defenses, modes of international criminal responsibility, procedures and attributes of various international tribunals, and the strengths and weaknesses of international criminal law compared to other mechanisms of enforcing international norms and obligations. Ad hoc international criminal tribunals (e.g., Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia), the International Criminal Court, and nationally-based prosecution and accountability mechanisms will also be considered, with an emphasis on U.S. practice and policy in this field. Letter grade. 3 credits
